WCBI
The Worcester County Bureau of Investigation (WCBI) is the major crimes investigative unit of the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office. WCBI is a team of professional, experienced, and dedicated investigators comprised of Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office. WCBI is responsible for the investigation of major crimes, including, but not limited to, crimes against children, thefts, threat assessments, fraud complaints, adult protective services cases for neglect and financial exploitation, burglaries, violent and sexual assaults, rapes, attempted murders, and shootings. If you are the victim of a serious crime in Worcester County or one of its local municipalities, your case may be referred to WCBI for further investigation by the Sheriff’s Office or one of the local police agencies that responded to your initial call for service.
Worcester County Child Advocacy Center
Investigators of the Worcester County Bureau of Investigation (WCBI) are assigned specifically to the Worcester County Child Advocacy Center (CAC). The Worcester County Child Advocacy Center (CAC) is a child-friendly, safe, and neutral location where local law enforcement and Child Protective Services investigators conduct and observe forensic interviews with children alleged to be victims of crimes. The CAC provides child and non-offending family members with support, crisis intervention, trauma-based therapy, and medical intervention. The mission of the CAC is to protect, serve, and advocate for Children and Families. The focus of all partnering agencies is to provide a comprehensive multidisciplinary team approach to the investigation, prosecution, and treatment of child physical and sexual abuse in a child-friendly environment. This collaborative team response enhances the investigative process, facilitates the prosecution of the perpetrators of these crimes, and minimizes the trauma of abuse for the child victim and the non-offending family members.
The CAC includes child protective services workers, medical and mental health professionals, local law enforcement, Atlantic General Hospital, Life Crisis, Inc., and the Worcester County State’s Attorney’s Office. The link to the CAC website is below.
