Worcester County Sheriff's Office

Proud to Protect, Ready to Serve

School Safety

The Worcester County Sheriff's Office School Resource Division was established in 2013 and is supervised and staffed by specially trained Deputy Sheriffs. Its primary mission is to ensure a safe learning environment for students, educators, and staff within our county’s public schools where everyone can thrive academically and socially. Our dedicated team of Deputies serves as a liaison between law enforcement agencies and educational institutions, and they work closely with school administrators, parents, and students to promote positive relationships and uphold the high standards of safety and security that the community expects. Other responsibilities of these Deputies are:

• Law Enforcement - Enforcing laws and regulations on school grounds, addressing criminal activity, disturbances, and violations as necessary. This includes conducting investigations into criminal activities, incidents, or suspicions involving students or staff, gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and maintaining accurate records of incidents, investigations, and interactions, ensuring compliance with Sheriff’s Office policies and the law.

• Crisis Response – Responding promptly to emergencies, including incidents such as fights, medical emergencies, or threats, and take appropriate action to ensure the safety of students and staff. All Deputies are trained and experienced in de-escalating techniques and conflict resolution strategies.

• Mentorship – Our Deputies strive to be positive role models and mentors for students, offering guidance, support, and encouragement to help them make positive choices and avoid involvement in criminal behavior.

The division is responsible for a wide range of functions aimed at fostering a secure educational atmosphere. This includes conducting regular patrols and maintaining a visible presence in and around school campuses. Additionally, our Deputies are actively engaged in implementing and promoting programs focused on crime prevention, conflict resolution, and anti-bullying initiatives within the school setting, to include safety awareness and drug prevention using the widely known D.A.R.E. program. School Resource Division Deputies place a strong emphasis on community engagement and regularly participate in educational events, outreach programs, and workshops designed to educate students about the law, safety protocols, and the importance of mutual respect and responsibility.
