December 4, 2018

  On December 3, 2018, Sheriff Elect Matthew Crisafulli was sworn in as Sheriff of Worcester County.  His new Chief Deputy, Mark Titanski was also sworn in. Both were joined by numerous family members and representatives from the Worcester County Board of Education, Worcester County Commissioners, Worcester County State's Attorney's Office, Law Enforcement from several agencies, and other elected officials. Sheriff Crisafulli looks forward to working with the community and elected officials in the coming months. 

October 29, 2018

On October 31st, 2018 from 5pm to 8 pm, The Worcester County Sheriff's Office will be conducting Candy Sreening at the Circuit Court Building in Snow Hill. Parents are encouraged to bring their children's candy to the Market Street side at the front entrance of the Court House for X-ray screening by members of the Sheriff's Office.

On September 24th, 2018 a grand jury was empaneled by The Office of The State’s Attorney for Worcester County where evidence and testimony were presented by Interim State’s Attorney Bill McDermott that resulted in indictments being returned by the grand jury charging Michael Cori Cluster, 34, of Berlin, Maryland along with John Harrison, 30, of Berlin, Maryland with the following charges; possession of a marijuana in an amount greater than ten grams, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, manufacturing marijuana and maintaining a common nuisance structure for the purpose of

We just concluded our Weather Briefing with our Emergency Services and Weather Folks. Florence continues to head towards the Carolina's with Wind Speeds around 130 mph. Our area is currently under a Coastal Flood Watch and we are already starting to see flooding along Route 12 in Snow Hill and Porter's Crossing Road. This trend of flooding will continue over the next several days. The current forecast for our immediate area with Florence is that we can expect a significant rain event beginning Thursday. Forecast rain totals do vary from a few inches up to 10 inches of rain.

Folks, we have an extremely busy week coming up. As you are aware, we have a potential major weather event that will be impacting the Eastern Region of the United States by the weekend. Tomorrow, we will begin monitoring the potential for storm impacts for our area with our Emergency Services Partners. Our intent will be to provide updates each evening until we have a clear understanding of the path of "Florence". Our area is already saturated with water so obviously our main concerns will be coastal flooding and down trees.

The Ocean City Police Department (OCPD) has made exciting changes to their longstanding Citizens Police Academy and is now hosting the academy in partnership with the Ocean Pines Police Department, Worcester County Sheriff’s Office and Maryland State Police Berlin Barracks. This partnership will give participants a unique look at law enforcement, not only in the resort but across Worcester County.

On Tuesday August 7th, at about 0930 Hrs. The Worcester County Sheriff’s office responded to homer Gudelsky Park in West Ocean City to investigate the possible recovery of a bone. Deputies responded and met with a couple who stated that they were wading out in the water and came across an object that appeared to be like a suitcase or box. They reached into the object and pulled out items such as; parts of a woman’s shoe, pottery, and what appeared to be a bone.

One of the leading causes of crashes is speed. Last year there were 557 deaths on Maryland roadways due to automobile crashes. In an effort to reduce crashes and fatalities associated with crashes, the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office will be utilizing new technology in measuring speed. The speed detection device can record vehicle speeds and photograph violators for later identification. The device will be augmented with a Deputy in the area enforcing the traffic laws.

July 30, 2018

On July 24th, 2018, members of the Worcester County Criminal Enforcement Team conducted a traffic stop for speed in the Berlin, Maryland. Upon contact with the operator, who was identified as Jalil E. Pierce, Age 31, of Portsmouth, Virginia, Deputies could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A search was conducted of this vehicle which revealed 1,250 individually wrapped bags of heroin along with small amount of marijuana. Pierce was placed under arrest and transported to the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office for processing where he was charged with the following offenses:

PRESS RELEASE

On July 20th, 2018, members of the Worcester County Criminal Enforcement Team executed a search and seizure warrant at a residence in Whalleyville, Maryland as a result of a heroin distribution investigation. The Criminal Enforcement Team was assisted by the Worcester County STAR Team, Worcester County States Attorney’s Office and the Ocean City Police Department during the execution of this search and seizure warrant. Investigators subsequently located, 2,472 individually wrapped bags of heroin, 19.5 grams of cocaine, and a loaded handgun.
