CROSSING GUARD (Seasonal, Part-time)
SALARY/ GRADE: Grade 14/ Step 1- $17.27 per hour
JOB SUMMARY: This position will be under the direct supervision of School Security Unit Supervisors and will be monitored and evaluated by the Sheriff of Worcester County.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
•Drug and Alcohol Testing
•Pre-employment background check and motor vehicle history
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Directs traffic during the hours when school buses arrive and depart Stephen Decatur High,Stephen Decatur Middle and Showell Elementary schools throughout the school year (estimated 180 days);•Reports traffic violations to deputies or police officers for enforcement action.•Ensures the safe arrival and departure of students;•Performs duties with traffic direction equipment (supplied) in all kinds of weather;•Requires being on station at a required time and managing both vehicle and pedestrian traffic during school mornings and afternoons;•Adhere to the Worcester County Government Personnel Rules & Regulations.•Other related duties as required.•Using traffic whistle repeatedly during assignments
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
•Must successfully complete a two day training session of classroom and practical trafficdirection skills.
•Required wear of authorized safety equipment (supplied).
•Possesses a strong sense of responsibility for the safety of students, sound judgment andabove average decision making skills,
•Verifiable references of character, dependability and punctuality required.
•Ability to see, hear, talk, speak, stand and move with agility sufficient to observe anddirect vehicle and pedestrian traffic for no less than 45 consecutive minutes.
•Ability to follow verbal and written instructions; read street signs; keep records and logs;complete written forms; and to communicate effectively with the public and coworkers.Ability to apply acquired knowledge to increasingly varied and complex tasks.
•Willingness to work in inclement weather.
